Samsung D900 - Quirks
I had the Samsung d900, and while it had certain redeeming factors, there were loads of quirks that really turned me off. I eventually sold the phone because of them. Each quirk individually is not bad, but when you add them up, use of the phone became very bothersome. I will start posting all the problems, so they can be discussed with others. Hopefully something good will come from this. (i.e. A Samsung rep seeing this..... sure..). I will define quirk as problem or inconvenience in the software that could have been easily fixed or changed, usually by just changing or adding a few lines of code. Keep in mind also that some of these quirks are only on certain firmwares. The quirks I describe are found on the firmware designed for the d900 sold in North America. I realize that there are explanations for some of the quirks (e.g. it would use more batter life) but then the choice should be given the used if to use that feature. (see quirk 2 for an example of this).
QUIRK # 1 -- When charging the phone, and the phone is fully charged, there is no indication that it's fully charged. It just keeps on displaying the charging indicator forever.
QUIRK # 2 -- When the phone is in standby it does not display anything, not even the time. I realize that this would have used more battery, but it at least should be an option!
QUIRK # 3 -- When an item (e.g. menu item) is selected, it is with an orange highlight. There is no way to change this color. The problem is when using medianet from Cingular - whose color is also orange. It's very hard to figure out what is being highlighted.
QUIRK # 4 -- There is no way to assign a ringtone or mp3 to be used as a message tone. You are limited to a few beeps and the likes.
QUIRK # 5 -- The message tone is the same for voicemails and text messages. No way to differentiate.
Just to reiterate, some of these quirks exist on other phones. But that does not mean that they are not stupid, stupid, easily changeable QUIRKS!
