is Sprint using Verizon's wireless network in the...

...DC metro area? a sales guy told us this the other day and I can't find out if it's true.

They could be using their tower. Sometimes carriers pay each other for tower use.

yes sprint and VZW has a roaming agreement

No, they are not using their network. CDMA wireless companies do sometimes allow for roaming between the two, but not typically between Sprint and Verizon. They don't like each other too much, therefore do not help each other. The best way to find out what network is to dial 611. That will get routed to the customer care of whomever you are on. Another way is to get debug information from your phone. How to do this is different for every phone, but with Sprint it is typically ##DEBUG#. If you don't want a sprint phone to roam, you can set the roaming option to Sprint Only instead of Automatic. If you do go on Verizon typically your roaming light will go on.

uhhhhhh sprint and verizon roam off each other with no problems they just pay big bucks for it and 611 is a GSM way to reach the service provider. with all CDMA you will have to dial *2 ;)
