Right now, T-mobile utilizes 1900 MHz. They have voice (phone calls) GPRS (Slow internet) and EDGE (Little bit faster data) on 1900MHz. Recantly there was an FCC auction, that auctioned off 1700/2100 MHz spectrum. T-mobile spent somewhere around 4.3 BILLION to buy spectrum. On this new spectrum, they will likely be deploying 3G. 3G (3G - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) services include UMTS and HSDPA (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System and High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) the later of which is faster. There is speculation that T-mobile will skip UMTS and go right to HSDPA. Right now there are some reports that T-mobile customers are getting 3G on their current phones using 1900 MHz, meaning that T-mobile may deploy 3G on both 1900 and 1700/2100 MHz. Any other questions? |
