RUMOR: T-mo Messaging Rate Changes (effective 6/1/07)

There's a pretty solid "rumor" going around that T-mobile is going to make the following changes to the pricing for pay-per-use SMS (text/IM) and MMS (pic/vid) messages:

SMS = $0.10/ea >>> $0.15/ea
MMS = $0.25/ea >>> $0.15/ea

I'm not sure WHY MMS is going down in price but SMS is going up, but I would imagine that T-mo is only doing this because other carriers are doing it with much "success", and to consolidate billing rates to a single tiered structure (less confusing I'd imagine).

FULL TEXT BELOW (thanks NokiaFanatic):

• Ensure dealers understand that all customers activating between March 15 and May 31 must review and sign the Service Agreement Addendum.
• Ensure manual addendums are delivered to dealers immediately.

Details
Domestic messaging rate changes
• The charge to send or receive text or instant message from the U.S. or Canada will increase from 10 cents to 15 cents per message.
• The charge to send or receive picture, video or multimedia messages (MMS) from the U.S. or Canada will decrease from 25 cents to 15 cents per message.

Service agreement addendums - action required
• An addendum to the WATSON service agreement will be added March 15.
o The addendum will print as a third page and must be signed by the customer.
• Addendums to the manual service agreements are being printed in both English and Spanish.
o They will be arriving in admin centers on or before March 14.
o They must be delivered to dealers immediately.

• Starting March 15, bill inserts will go out to all existing postpaid customers announcing the messaging rate changes.
• New customers activating between March 15 and May 31 will also receive an addendum to their service agreement announcing the messaging rate change.

Action steps

2. Have dealers review the service agreement addendum with their customers before they sign it.
3. Encourage dealers to interest customers in one of T-Mobile's messaging bundles:
o $4.99 per month for 400 messages

o $19.95 per month for unlimited messages on our FamilyTime plans

sadly
T-Mobile eventually follows other carriers to raise PPU SMS rate
however, if you can live without nights, pick Business National Plans

Cingular also offers Unlimited M2M Messaging for $4.99/mo too (although you need a base Messaging Plan first... starting from $4.99/mo).

Dang...I was hoping T-mobile wouldn't follow and do this. Well at least the MMS messaging is going down. Maybe I'll have to skip to unlimited from my 1000 a month because its going to suck going over now...

Hey, I wouldn't go there if I were you, because it's not like Sprint can't jump on the band wagon and raise their rates also.

Does T-Mo not have a similar plan?
(sincerely asking, not being sarcastic.)

They do have one called "Unlimited messaging" for $14.99 per month, per line. But I find this to be just a little bit on the expensive side for my needs.
How much do you pay pixie?
